Explore Amsterdam’s neighborhoods by bike
Bike in West
Started and developed in the early 19th century, Oud-West is one of the city’s trendiest and most welcoming neighborhoods. Its alleys are charming and quiet, and suitable for cycling or walking. Bars and cafes are found on every corner, offering the best local specialties. Sit in one of the legendary “brown cafés” in the Oud-West and admire the wood-paneled facades. There is a great atmosphere in this area. It usually attracts those who want to attend art exhibitions or concerts by national and international artists.
Bike in Oost
Amsterdam Oost is known for its wide streets lined with monumental 19th-century buildings and its vibrant cultural mix. Dotted with places to shop, eat and drink, this neighborhood offers a great selection of trendy clubs, traditional Turkish bakeries, Surinamese supermarkets and Middle Eastern restaurants. One of our tips is to rent a bike in Oost – what about Donkey bikes? – and ride in the beautiful Oosterpark before dedicating some cultural time at the Tropenmuseum.
Bike in Zuid
Home to some of the best museums in the world, Oud-Zuid is one of Amsterdam’s most elegant and well-preserved neighborhoods, where impressive mansions and chic boutiques line the leafy shopping streets. From the splendor of Museumplein to the vibrant Vondelpark and the serene boulevards of Willemspark, the beautiful Oud-Zuid district rewards the visitor at every turn. Lunch at Sushilee or Market 33 and eat surrounded by locals, or fancy a more gastronomic experience at the Grand Café Malher.

Visit the Van Gogh Museum
As prestigious as the Rijksmuseum, Located in the heart of the Dutch capital, on the Museum Square (Museumplein), it is entirely dedicated to the life and work of this post-impressionist painter. The museum houses the largest collection of the painter's works of art. The other treasure of venue is undoubtedly the correspondence, especially between Vincent and his younger brother, Theo.
Get lost int De Negen Straatjes (The Nine Streets)
Away from the brands and big-box favorites found on the main streets of the city, you'll find more unique shops on the 9 streets. Some of the street names, such as Huidenstraat, Reestraat and Wolvenstraat, remind us of the leather crafts and tanneries that were an original feature of the area. Stroll along the beautiful picturesque streets and soak up the very special atmosphere, visiting the stores, stalls, cafes, restaurants and much more.
Join a canal tour on a boat
Sailing the famous canals of Amsterdam is one of the most popular activities in the city.
