Schlei Region bike rental

The best way to move around the Schlei Region

The next ride is not just an app booking, but just a stone’s throw away. This is because the rental bikes are available at more than 50 stations and are therefore always close to you.

You can find stations north of the Schlei (Kreis Schleswig-Flensburg), as well as south of the Schlei (Kreis Rendsburg-Eckernförde). This area is already part of the SprottenFlotte by the KielRegion, so both orange Donkey Republic and green SprottenFlotte coloured bikes will be found in the Smile24 system and it is possible to bike from one system to the other.

All bikes can be rented through the Donkey Republic App.

Please note that E-Bikes, Cargo bikes and E-Cargo bikes are exclusive to the SprottenFlotte and rentals on these bikes cannot be ended north of the Schlei (Kreis Schleswig-Flensburg).

What can you do in the Schlei-Region?

Rent a Donkey bike

From the sea to the treetops - discover Eckernförde

In Eckernförde, the Ostsee Info Center (OIC) on Eckernförde beach offers a good excursion destination for all generations. Idyllic cycle tours can be undertaken in the surrounding area and for those who like it even more active, there is a high ropes course and opportunities for water sports.

A trip to the Bay of Geltingen

A day on the beach at the Baltic Sea, a nature tour on the Geltinger Birk or enjoying the view from the Falshöft lighthouse. You can explore all of this in comfort with your Donkey. Special tip: the 26-kilometre fishing trip – a slightly hilly landscape shaped by the Ice Age.

Arnis - the smallest town in Germany

Despite its small size, Arnis is a special travel destination. Half-timbered houses, small alleyways and an idyllic harbour. The small streets are lined with cosy cafés and restaurants serving regional specialities. And because it is located directly on the Schlei, Arnis is particularly favoured by water sports enthusiasts. Maritime flair, nature and history in a place where time seems to stand still.

Relax and unwind in Kappeln

With its cosy alleyways, thatched houses and the historic herring fence in the harbour, Kappeln has plenty to discover. A guided tour is the best way to get to know the town and learn interesting facts about its history. Or you can stroll along the shore, enjoy fresh fish straight from the cutter and stroll through the small boutiques. One thing is for sure, it’s well worth a visit.

Cycling rules for the Schlei Region

Be the good rider

When cycling on your Smile24 bike, safety is the top priority. Be alert and respect all cycling rules, including red lights, one-way street and speed limits. If you can, wear a helmet.

Let there be light

As soon as the sun sets, turn on the lights on your rental bike in the Schlei Region.

Park everywhere but not anywhere

You can park your rental bike almost everywhere in the Schlei Region. However, don’t contribute to the organized chaos and make sure pedestrians can still walk on the sideway.
