Explore Geneva like a local

One of the most international cities in the world, Geneva is known as the hometown for the UN and Red Cross Headquarters.  But there is more to see than the old town, and brand name shops. While the lake is a blast, maybe you want to explore the other hidden gems of the city. And grabbing a bike or ebike for those of us who dislike hills is the perfect way to do so. So find a nearby Donkey bike and start exploring some of these lesser known gems:

Carouge

Better known as Small Italy, Carouge is just a bike ride away from the main city area of Geneva. If you want a piece of rustic ambience, Carouge is the place to go. Musee de Carouge, a cinema that only plays indie films, and the local cuisine mostly cooked with local produce transports you to Italy. It’s a nice breath of mediterranean air amidst the hustle and bustle of Geneva.

Bains des Pâquis

Bike over to Bains des Pâquis and give those leg muscles some rest. Offering a great spot to relax year round this spot is loved by tourists and locals alike. Enjoy some sunbathing while you treat yourself to the perfect Swiss fondue and drinks. In the winter you can rest your bones with the help of saunas and Turkish baths.

Treille Promenade

Explore The Treille Promenade (“Promenade de la Treille”) which is located just a bit  outside the old town. Biking here is worth the effort simply because of the views and tranquility one feels from the area. Between the Chestnut trees and the longest wooden bench in the world you will feel yourself slow down and enjoy the moment.

Les Enfants Terribles

Grab a bite to eat by biking over to the Plainpalais quarter and find Les Enfants Terribles. This unique area is a wine bar, a workshop, an interior design store, a hair salon and is even sometimes used for concerts and fashion shows! The café itself offers a range of organic fruit juices, home-made quiches, burgers, cakes and pastries. If you are lucky you may even experience some sort of show while you eat.
